Forever and a day ago, Shelby and I were up to no good in high school and ended up making "Degenerates," an elaborate and sarcastic treatise on the mutant-high-schooler-superheroes comic genre. Things got hectic with our teenage lives, she moved, I moved, and out collective creativity (or, in my case, lack thereof) was lost to the world for a time.
Now we live together and we're trying to work on it again, with the arrangement being that we'll collaborate on the story line, and alternate doing issues. That is to say that she will do all the art for the first issue, I'll do the art for the second, she'll do the art for the third, and so on until such a time as we either end the story, die, or get so bored with it we light the motherfucker on fire.
The thing of it is, Shel wants the books all done with the same basic style, which is similar to the style we used for the original comics in high school. Much more anime-esque. Hard lines, angles, etc. And, to be perfectly honest, I suck suck suck at that anymore. I mean, my shit has done almost a complete 180 as far as the looks goes in the last couple years. Hers hasn't changed much at all. She's improved, that's for sure, but her stuff definitely has the same feel to it. Mine...not so much.
I'd be perfectly okay with alternating styles between issues - I think it'd be kinda nifty, myself, especially since the story arcs I oversee tend to be the sillier, more animated ones, and hers are the more serious plots, which goes well with our respective art niches. But she's not so keen on the idea. I think she finds it rather unprofessional.
Who knows? Maybe I should just suck it up and retrain my hands toward a more Eastern style, if only for this one specific project. Maybe I'm being lazy by refusing to buck up to the challenge. Probably. I'm a sissy that way

I'd like a little extra input. What do any of the three people who might read this think? Variety, or similarity? Mix it up or keep it clean? Soup or salad?
